Arginine

What it is: Arginine is one of the 22 proteinogenic amino acids. It is classified in the semi-essential amino acids for the body, in the sense that the human body can usually produce it; however, the biosynthetic pathway does not always produce sufficient quantities.

How it works: Arginine has very important functions that mainly concern the normal functioning of the immune system as well as the muscles. However, in some cases of flu, cold or chronic diseases such as hypertension and diabetes mellitus type 2, its additional administration is deemed necessary. With regard to exercise, it seems that arginine administration helps enhance performance and increase stamina.
