What it is: It is a structural protein. It is the basis of joint cartilage, comprising 85-90% of the structural tissue. Collagen is produced in abundance when we are young; however, after the age of 25–30 there is significant decrease of its endogenous production

How it works: The role of collagen is the retention/maintenance of structures. Supplemental administration of collagen has been used to relieve arthritis symptoms.
